A Public Retraction

A couple of blogs back – I was lamenting on the fact that a New Year may also mean Same Year. However — few days ago — mukhang the stars (the celestial bodies ha… hindi yung mga artista) have aligned and transpired to prove me wrong. Hay. Ok. Fine. Binabawi ko na ang sinabi ko. Take this blog as a retraction of what I said earlier. 2008 will definitely be a New Year for me. Happy? And when I say transpired — I really mean transpired… with gusto…. Leaving me with nothing… not even an ounce of chance na makahanap ng lusot tungkol sa aking New Year/Same Year na paniniwala.

Tiyak tinatanong nyo… ano namang changes yan… hmm…. 1st instances… pero dahil sa trabaho related… I need to be as vague as possible. Sabihin na lang natin na maraming rigodon ngayon sa opisina… kanya-kanyang sayaw sa sarili nilang tugtugin… isa-isang nag-raise ng hands to be counted as true and not a mere rumor. Basta. Yun na yun… I am affected to a certain small degree… sa ngayon ha… pero its really to early to say kung ano ang magiging ending ng sayaw na ito. Hayaan nyo… balitaan ko kayo kung sakali.

2nd instance happened yesterday. Hindi naman sya immediate change… but just the same alam ko rin naman it is inevitable. I mentioned in one of my blogs the sky rocketing rental fees dito sa Singapore. For the past couple of years- we are fortunately shielded. Pero – it seems that our luck has run out. We are to renew our tenancy agreement sa bahay – and I am definitely expecting that the rent may double.. or worse ilevel nila sa market price. However – prepared naman kaming mga housemate ni Lola to pay the hefty fee. Wala naman choice e – we love our current abode… sabi nga dati ni Charlene Gonzales – At Home ako dito. It is definitely our home away from home. Nga lang – iba pala ang nasa isipan ni Lola. Hay. Base on yesterday’s usapan – we can renew our tenancy contract for 6 months only. Balak na pala nilang ibenta yung bahay. So in 6 months – goodbye home away from home na kami. Unless daw bilhin naming yung house. Hmm… tempting… but I don’t think I am in a financial position to buy an HDB Unit here in Singapore… or anywhere else for that matter. Neither are my housemates. Hay. Sayang. So what else to do…. Hahanap na lang kami ng ibang matitirahan which will surely be overpriced and will definitely be not as nice as our current place. This will surely make a dent on my monthly salary and will affect my financial plan for the year! Hay. Ha? Oo nga pala… muntik ko nang malimutan… our rent will also increase…. Gaano ang increase? Well – this is the funny part — SGD$80 lang…. as in…. Siguro nahihiya sa amin si Lola kasi papapalayasin na niya kami in 6 months… so nagpakunswelo siya. But still — looking at this in another angle — 6 more months of very low rent! Aba. Kaunti lang ang nabibigyan ng ganyang pagkakataon… siguro nga… we are still lucky.. for 6 months… Sabagay .. di rin natin alam ang mangyayari sa future… malay natin… the next house will be bigger, better, and cheaper…. Hmm.. di kaya sa Big brother house kami susunod na titira? Well…that will definitely be something new.

Today is only January 10 – and NEW things have already been happening. It may be an immediate change… or an anticipated change… but bottomline is – it is something NEW that definitely hasn’t happened last year. Sabi ko nga — mukhang the stars really want to prove a point … and I now do agree with them. Every end of the year signals the beginning of a NEW year – may mga bagay man na paulit-ulit na nangyayari – that does not mean na its sa SAME year over and over again. If you will really look closely – miniscule as it may seem – kahit papaano – there is still something new in it. So ngayon — I would again want to greet every one — A HAPPY NEW YEAR — and this time — I mean it… Pramis! ☺
